Driving Change

MDC projects over five decades have helped the South improve education, employment and economic security outcomes.

We help foundations, governments, businesses and nonprofit institutions deploy their resources and philanthropy in catalytic ways, testing new ideas, building new institutions, scaling solutions that work and lowering the cost of social innovation by subsidizing risk.

MDC at Work

Achieving the Dream

MDC helped conceive, manage and spin-off Achieving the Dream, now the nation’s  largest student success initiative designed to help more community college students, particularly low-income and students of color, succeed.

My Future NC logo

MDC is advising and supporting the work of My Future NC, a commission of North Carolina's leaders to improve postsecondary completion rates in the state and find ways to help adults with some college but no degree cross the postsecondary finish line.

Passing Gear Philanthropy

MDC promotes local investment in large-scale, systemic change, and positions philanthropies to play leadership roles in mobilizing local, cross-sector action.  We have helped foundations redirect more than $1 billion over the past 10 years to address root causes of inequity in education, employment health and overall economic well-being.

Program for the Rural Carolinas

MDC designed, served as managing partner, and provided technical assistance and support to grantee communities for this five-year, $10.6 million rural development project in North Carolina and South Carolina, funded by The Duke Endowment during 2002-2007.
