MDC conducts research and community conversations that frame the challenges and opportunities regions face and recommend approaches for driving change.
At the heart of our work is educating community partners about the need for equitable systems that level the playing field so that everyone has the opportunity to move up the economic ladder.
MDC at Work
MDC’s landmark reports since 1996 have shaped the economic agenda of a region, shining a spotlight on historic trends, deep-rooted inequities and solutions that offer rural and urban communities a path forward.
Our research for the GlaxoSmithKline Foundation revealed a critical level of disconnected youth ill-equipped to participate in the regional economy and laid the foundation for creating the Made in Durham community partnership to address it.
Our work with the John M. Belk Endowment examines patterns of economic mobility and educational progress, and outlines steps for creating an infrastructure of opportunity that can lead more North Carolinians to economic security.
