We’ve helped this community over 20 years transform itself from a struggling manufacturing town to a thriving one with computer software firms, major employers, such as IKEA, and biofuels research companies.
We helped a coalition of health care and legal aid organizations secure federal grants and mobilize to connect uninsured households with Affordable Care Act health insurance and financial assistance, leading North Carolina to post the fourth-highest number of enrollments in the nation.
MDC managed this program for The Duke Endowment to help economically distressed communities in rural North Carolina and South Carolina revitalize their communities through employment and asset development.
The Ford Foundation invited MDC to manage this eight-year initiative to strengthen rural community colleges, helping 24 community and tribal colleges in the nation's most economically distressed regions move their people and communities toward prosperity. An independent evaluation cited the initiative for its innovation and impact.
