Sam Skardon

Sam Skardon has dedicated his career to economic mobility, empowerment, and justice in the American South. As Development Director at MDC, he is responsible for cultivating, expanding, and deepening relationships among individuals who invest in MDC’s programs and operations. Prior to joining MDC, Sam served as the Director of Development and operations at the CLIMB Fund, a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) based in Charleston, SC, and the Director of One Region, an economic development strategic planning initiative for the Charleston Metro Area, and as a Legislative Aide to Civil Rights Leader and U.S. Congressman John Lewis.
Sam is the proud father of twin boys, Lewis and Lawson, lucky husband to his wife Leslie, and best friend to their rescue pup Stewart. He is a long-suffering fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks and Washington Nationals. He also has a track record of community leadership having been a candidate for the South Carolina State Senate in 2020, Chairman of the Charleston County Democratic Party, and Commissioner of the Charleston Housing Authority.
Sam is originally from Charleston, SC, and holds a bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from Emory University and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Georgetown University.
