Economic Resilience Hub Report

Households in Bladen and Columbus County are struggling from systems of intentional disinvestment that create barriers to economic mobility. Workforce development opportunities and job skills programs are difficult to access. Community members who lack broadband or reliable transportation are often left behind in these two counties, which are some of the largest in North Carolina. At the same time, employers in the area struggle to find employees with the skills they need to perform the work.

With funding from the US Economic Development Administration and grant writing support from the Southeastern Economic Development Commission, lead applicant Men and Women United for Youth & Families CDC (MWUYF) and co-applicant MDC Inc. (MDC) seek to address these needs by developing an Economic Resilience Hub. This hub will build collaborative, community-based capacity for economic resilience by filling gaps and barriers to accessing existing workforce development and job skills training programs.
