True South Series Kick-Off Event! Oct 27-28, Durham
You’re invited to the launch of our State of the South series, True South: Reclaiming Southern History and Narrative at Durham’s Hayti Heritage Center and North Carolina Central University!
For more than 20 years, MDC’s State of the South has been a major resource and reference for policymakers and practitioners, offering rigorous, insightful views of the South through the twin lenses of equity and competitiveness. This year’s State of the South will expand upon traditional quantitative analysis to weave together community conversations, artistic expression, online content, and a series of reports to explore how—and if—Southerners are reckoning with this moment of economic, social, and environmental upheaval.
At our kick-off event on Thursday, October 27th, we’ll gather at Hayti Heritage Center for an evening of performance and dialogue that reflects on the past, present, and future of the South. On Friday October 28th, we’ll meet at North Carolina Central University for a day-long gathering centered on critical issues of inclusion in our region’s economies, communities, and democratic processes.
We are grateful to have the support of partners The Kresge Foundation, South Arts, The Social Science Research Institute at Duke University and North Carolina Central University to bring our State of the South series to you.
