MDC receives gift in recent round of giving from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott
MDC is pleased to announce that we have received a gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott to support our work to shape a south where all people thrive. We are thrilled and humbled to be among 465 organizations receiving over $3.8 billion.
“For over 50 years, MDC has equipped Southerners with tools and strategies to advance equity and economic mobility,” MDC president John Simpkins shared. “Ms. Scott’s transformative gift will help fortify MDC’s path to its next chapter, building on a legacy to achieve greater impact in the 13 states we serve.”
As MacKenzie Scott eloquently stated, MDC also believes, “The cause of equity has no sides. Nor can it have a single solution. Equity can only be realized when all people involved have an opportunity to help shape it.” MDC is committed to shining a light on underinvestment and its effects, reimaging systems to achieve systemic change, and cultivating equity-centered leadership that is collaborative, focused on human dignity, and dedicated to improving the lives of all.
We are beyond grateful to MacKenzie Scott and her team for including us in her prolific investment in equity. And we are honored to share this space with many friends, colleagues, and partners also being recognized for their leadership and commitment to justice and equity.
