Our Funders

MDC has received support from a wide range of sources, ranging from federal and state governments—to implement and maintain ground-breaking programs in employment and job training—to local and national foundations looking to achieve community-level impact.

Early work for the State of North Carolina included creation of its Human Resources Development program for pre-employment training, design of the North Carolina Manpower Council at the request of Gov. Robert Scott, and redesign of the state’s Employment and Training System. Current state-funded work includes management of the EITC Carolinas coalition and operation of The Benefit Bank of North Carolina and the JobsNOW program in association with the Open Society Institute.

Projects funded by major foundations have included the Ford Foundation’s seven-year Rural Community College Initiative, the Lily Endowment’s Indiana School Guidance and Counseling Leadership Project, The Duke Endowment’s six-year Program for the Rural Carolinas, and serving as managing partner and incubator of the Lumina Foundation’s thriving Achieving the Dream initiative. Current work for major foundations includes the Developmental Education Initiative and the Partners for Postsecondary Success programs funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Latino Student Success initiative funded by the Lumina Foundation.
